I applied for a green card for my wife just after we were married on May 11, 2009. We received an appointment for an interview in Detroit on August 25, 2009, but we had moved to Texas in the meantime. The appointment was rescheduled at the Dallas field centre on September 14, 2009 (Monday).
I am wondering what to expect, from the small details to the big stuff. My 3 biggest questions:
. Does anyone have enough experience to say if there is there reasonable parking available at the field centre? I have never been to Irving. The web page says that there is public parking available, but nothing about how much.
. I was married before, and applied for a green card for my first wife. It was granted in 2004, and we divorced in 2006. Should I expect extra scrutiny / challenge because of this?
. Is one actually asked questions of the "What sort of toothpaste does your wife use?" variety? I'm really bad at remembering these details, and am wondering if there's any curve ball that I should expect.
. Is there a general impression of whether the Dallas field centre is a pleasant or an unpleasant place? My dealings with my first marriage (many years ago) were all with the Chicago field centre, which is very unpleasant, but my one piece of business with the Detroit field centre were easy and pleasant.
Thanks so much to anyone who can help relieve my nervousness about what to expect.
UPDATE: I forgot to ask another one: At my previous green card interview, the interviewer asked for a set of passport photos and paystubs for several previous months, although the interview letter had not requested them. I had been warned about this, so I had them with me. Naturally, I am also bringing passport photos and pay stubs this time, just in case. Is there anything else that I might be expected to bring that wouldn't have been mentioned on the interview letter?

... and ideally it should be copy of your approved labor.
I applied my labor as Software Engineer and BEC approved it with a code of Mechanical Engineer. I got it changed, but took me a year though. They kept my change request until the end when they were ready to shutdown BEC.
I probably go ahead and use what in the approved labor certificate. by the way how do I find exact job-code that I used in the I-140.
thanks.

You are okay, when you leave current employer, make sure there is not an overlap in dates when you get paycheck from there and get paycheck from new employer. couple of days won't matter but if there happens to be gap of more than 2 weeks you will probably need to explain that later at the time of 485 approval

harrydr,
It is not now. I cannot apply for I485 as PD is not current for me.
I am asking when USCIS decides to introduce an extra step called Pre-App for I485 and for which PD need not be current.
There was this news in early May that USCIS is planning to halt concurrent filing and introduce new Pre-App process. So I wanted to learn more about this from others...

You will get a 3 year H1 with new company if you have an approved labor and approved I 140 with any company. Any company really means any company. If you have worked or not, have an H1 or not, etc. etc - nothing matters.
To get a 3 year H1, you need an approved labor and 140 from SOME employer, whether its your past employer, your current employer or a future employer.

Friends,
My EB2 I-140 got approved during 1st week of April and USCIS successfully ported my EB3 priority date of Jan, 2006 to the new EB2 I-140. As per my attorney, interfiling shouldn't be done as I have been with same employer all along and same employer sponsored for my porting. The attorney says, this should be automatically taken care of by USCIS.
My question is...I couldn't find the proper procedure/documentation for my scenario. Did any body come across this situation and can any one offer any suggestion?
Thanks for any inputs,

:)
I first came to USA in April 2005 and have H1B valid till 2011 April.
I worked with company 'X' since 2005 on H1B status on permanent position, during this tenure with company 'X' i was filed for PERM during Feb 2009. Later in October 2009, I had moved out of company 'X' to Company 'Y' due to budget cuts at the clients place and not having any positions with in the Company 'X'`s other clients. Moved to Company 'Y and Company 'Y' had filed new HIB visa, Got approved in few weeks.started working for Company 'Y" since November 2009.
During January 2010 my PERM (LABOR) filed by Company 'X' got approved by uscis. I moved back to Company 'X' got started the next stage of the process of filing I-140 within the timeframe. Company 'X' filed my I-140 and also filed again for H1B and H4 for dependends in march and got approved in April with Priority date (PD) as april 2009 as my PERM was initiated during that period and H1B visa Validity date as May 2011.
Surprisingly and unfortunatly the assigment which was supposed to be a long term is getting completed by end of this May month 2010. Now that in Company 'X' the project got completed within two months and i am asked to move to their onsite project and can be brought back when there exists a position at any of the their clients locations.
Now the H1B status with Company 'X' is valid till May 2011 and with Company 'Y' the visa validity is till April 2011.
Can i move back to Company 'Y' as they had the same position that i worked with them and file for H1B visa extension which is due in 2011 April/May(as per new validity from Company 'X') based on the approved I-140 or PD. Company 'Y had also initiated the process of filling for PERM(Labour) got the clearence for LC.
Please suggest me the various options that are availabe to me to continue stay in here and get the H1B extension and as well continue my green card process.[/SIZE]

I was wondering if anyone has any info on the job
market for international students in NY. I will be graduating
in Dec and will be on the job market soon.
Some of my friends say that there are jobs to be had but
not many are keen on sponsoring H1, even non-tarp firms.
Can anyone confirm/refute this?

I searched the forums briefly but could not find a similar case, please assist.
There is a requirement for me to take up another position with the same employer (sort of Lateral job transfer) with the following details:
My H1B is sponsored by State Government who I have been working for 6+ years.
PD=DEC 2002, EB3
485 Filed= JUNE 6, 2007
FP = JULY 17, 2007
The new position will be with:
Same Employer
Same Job Title
Same Job Description
Same Job Duties
Same Pay
Same Classification Code (internal state job code#)
Same Supervisor
Same Location physically same cabin
Same everything else I can think of.
ONLY THING DIFFERENT IS THE "POSITION NUMBER" that is assigned by the Personnel Department. There will be an internal advertising for the position and interview & selection process.
I would like to know:
1) Does accepting the position at this stage cause problem with the Green Card process, i.e, will it affect my I485, PD or anything else? I have waited 6+ years to get to this stage and obviously I do not want to take any kind of risk.
2) Do I need to inform or check with USCIS or any other agency about this position change?
3) Do I need to do anything else to protect my PD, AOS etc.
I would appreciate all the assistance I can get.

Does anybody know if premium processing for I-140 has been reinstated? and can one upgrade to premium processing after it's been filed? Also, does anyone know what's the current wait for NSC. My PD is July 26 2007. Thanks
As of writing, 140 PP has not been reinstated - it is not likely in the near future. As on Dec 14, NSC is processing, 140 applications filed on or before April 06, 2007 per https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/Processtimes.jsp?SeviceCenter=NSC - BTW, 140 processing not by the PD but by your EB category and receipt date on 140 receipt notice.
