Try to connect an external monitor and see if it also displays the same. If it is then it is GPU, if it is not then it could be the LVDS connector or the LVDS cable.

Can anyone say Florida and hanging chads?
Nah, it's just like your Congress being split 215 apiece after a straightforward election count with 5 Independents from rural Minnesota and Wyoming suddenly in the position to demand pork barrelling to the max to negotiate which of the two big parties will actually control the House and run the govt. Internet broadband to Woop Woop! Ban Filipino banana imports! Roads to Alaska! They're basically sitting on Santa's knee with their long lists of wishes for their constituents which the two big Parties will outdo each other to grant (thereby guaranteeing these Independents will get relected next time as well), which the rest of us common schmucks will have to pay for now...
And seeing as our nation's leader is the leader of the party controlling the House of Representatives, we don't gots no Prime Minister at the moment until they do pork barrel these Independents to get their support. The place seems to be running just fine so far this week without one. ;)

thats a absolute bargain i take 10 for that price , payed 1470 for mine ,ok mine was complete in original box as shipped from apple in May 1998 to the owner in germany and still in pristine as new condition like it left the factory , apart from i also bought a g3 upgrade card from sonnet for it and a 50gb harddrive , mates call me insane why i spend that much money on a obsolete old piece of computer rather then getting a brandnew mac ..but i simply love the pre intel Mac's and they do what i buy them for
and honestly it looks better then a iMac 27" and has way better sound and is rarer :p
WOW! that is a hell of a price. I thought 700 for mine with an upgrade was tasty!

What are some good Go clients/servers?
I play Go on occasion. Here's what I've played on/heard of:
Goban - A nice little native Mac program that you can play against GnuGo with, or analyze SDF files with. It might also work with some online servers.
DragonGoServer.net - You can play correspondence games online here, no client required other than a web browser. Some people even play fast games on it. This is what I played on when I played regularly. I haven't been active on there for a year or so, though.
Kiseido Go Server (http://www.gokgs.com/) - I played on here once or twice, but they had a java client back then. Looks like they have a downloadable client on their web page.
Actually, I'll just link you to the Sensei's Library wiki. They have -all- sorts of resources for the Go junkie. http://senseis.xmp.net/ In particular, you can check out their entry on Go Servers: http://senseis.xmp.net/?GoServers
Have fun and good luck! :)

I'm looking for something like this...
http://www.dlo.com/products/view/HCFolio_touch
... for my wife, but without the belt clip.
I'm getting her a Touch for her birthday, and she'll keep it in her shoulder bag when she's not using it, which means, keys, chapstick, and whatever else could be in there too. Gotta have a flap to cover the screen.
Any recommendations?

or they have hacked someone's account so that they appear to be a reputable seller.
This cannot be legit. $2200 for a 17" PB and a 23" display? That's gotta be below cost.
One sure test is to ask them to use escrow with a service of YOUR choice. (escrow.com maybe?) Any legit seller would understand why you felt this was necessary. the ones who are trying to scam you will have a million excuses why this will not work ("it's against company policy," "I need the money fast," "I can only use this one certain escrow service...")
let me repeat, this CANNOT be legit. Only the 17" PB for that price has gotta be close to what wholesellers pay, if not lower. Plus you get a $2000 display for free? If it were a legit seller they could easily unload the whole package for twice that and have a very happy customer.

Hoo boy.
There is no such thing as a Zip or a Jaz drive that comes native with Firewire, or USB 2.0. (theoretically, someone may have put an IDE drive into a Firewire box, but I don't know if the drivers would support that.)
The iomega Zip is a flexible vinyl disk cartridge, and came in two versions, 100 Mb and 250 Mb. Althought the 250 can read and write 100 Mb cartridges it is deadly slow doing so. Zip drives came in Internal and External SCSI-1, external parallel (PC) interface, internal ATA and IDE (the early ATA internals are not Mac compatible) and external USB-1. External Zip drives only have one interface -- Either SCSI OR USB, not both.
The iomega Jaz is a hard-platter disk cartridge and came in two versions, a 1 Gb and a 2 Gb. Most Jaz drives are external, and have a SCSI-2 connector (high density) I have never seen a USB Jaz. Zip and Jaz are completely incompatible with each other.
The SyQuest EZFlyer 3.5" hard-platter cartridge drive (135 Mb and 230 Mb versions) are completely different from the Zip and Jaz, as are the SyQuest 5.25" 44, 88 and 200 Mb drive, the first 3.5" SyQuest (200 Mb?) and the SyJet 1.5 Gb drive - There was one other SyQuest product - Shark? Sharq? 1 Gb - which was only ever released in a PC version as far as I remember.
The imation 120 Mb Superfloppy is incompatible with Zip, it used special 3.5" floppy disks but could also read 1.44 3.5" floppies - most of the time.
The Castlewood Orb drive was a hard disk cartridge drive similar to the Jaz and SyJet which the blank media was never available for, and it died an ignominious death.

Same problem with the cover on the 17" PBook, but a Swiss Army knife blade works very nicely wgen you haven't got the right driver.

It's been a while since a console release, but they do those to this day.
The GameCube I manage to find at a store that decided last minute to not sell bundles. My friend found one for their kids at Christmas from Best Buy who decided the week before Christmas to sell them by themselves.
The PS3, XB360, and Wii were all sold as bundles when they were released (I managed to go back to the store I got my GameCube from and they made me at least buy an extra controller or game - compared to other stores which made you buy extra controllers and 2 games).

I was advised to come to these forums for help and advice from other Mac users, I didn't expect hostility and rudeness...
I'm trying really hard not to display real hostility and rudeness. What do you expect when you talk about "cracked" software?
This is what you do. Go to http://www.apple.com/uk/iwork/ and download the 30 day trial. Decide on which of the three apps is most important to you. Set aside 80p a day. At the end of the 30 day trial purchase the app from the App Store. Repeat for each of the next two months.
Or buy one less pint a day at the pub and you'll be able to get the whole suite in less than a month.

Kyle,
I destroyed the case on my previous PB trying to swap the drive. It was awful, and you are so correct the PBFixit, does such a poor job in explaining this part. Thans for the tip!

G'day all,
Over the last month or 2 my Macbook of a little over 4 years old has been experiencing some problems and I want some opinions on whether it is time to move on to a new Model.
My laptop is used for university work which mostly consists of typing documents and so on. I do a fair bit of video editing and short film making (which is now not possible as it can't even handle iMovie, even with every other program closed) and I also use it for browsing the web, iTunes and every now and then a bit of Photoshoping as i also am a hobbie photographer.
Specs: Early 2007 Macbook running Snow Leopard
2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
3GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
320GB HDD
1st issue: Screen Spasm
2 maybe 3 times a week I'll be in the middle of something and this screen will appear accompanied by a flickering noise and the only way of stopping is to hold and shutdown the computer. Any ideas??
http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n618/jimmymac9588/IMG_0592.jpg
2nd Issue: Freeze
The computer will freeze just like any other would and if music is on at the time the sound sounds like when your CD's skip except it doesnt stop until you shutdown. This has been occuring once or twice a week for the last month or so.
3rd issue: Sound fuzzy
Every so often i'll be listning to music or watching YouTube and the sound will skip a few times then go all fuzzy and static, there is however a reasonably quick solution to this....pause whatever ur listning/watching, leave the computer for a minute and then resume, usually works.
My big question is what will it take to fix these issues and at what cost? Is it worth the expense or will i be needing to fork out money for a new computer soon down the track either way? If i can fix these problems will I be able to continue my video making/editing or is that something that will not be possible on this laptop from this point?
Would really appreciate some assistance/advise?
Thanks for reading!
